My goal for GIS workshops is for students to learn enough spatial literacy concepts and software navigation skills to later be successful using self-help resources. Along the way, they are exposed to cartographic principles, spatial analysis, and data management. The tutorials below are the step-by-step versions of my in-person training sessions.
QGIS Tutorial
QGIS is a free and open source software that allows users to visualize, analyze, and manage spatial data. QGIS supports a wide range of data formats and a wide variety of plugins for data analysis and management. You can download QGIS here.
 ArcGIS for Desktop Tutorial
ArcGIS for Desktop is the most commonly used proprietary GIS software. It is published by Esri. It allows users to visualize, analyze, and manage spatial data. ArcMap is the component of the ArcGIS for Desktop software that is used to perform analyses and make maps.
ArcGIS Online Tutorial
ArcGIS Online is also produced by Esri. It is an online GIS platform that allows users to use and contribute to an extensive geospatial database, analysze and vizualize data, and publish interactive web apps. Public accounts are free and can be created here.
